Best AI Dating Apps in 2026, Honestly Compared

Fox Chen, founder of OtherDay

TL;DR

As of October 2026, AI dating apps come in three kinds: AI matchmakers like Sitch, Amata and Known that interview you and set up real dates in a few US cities, AI help inside apps like iris, Hinge, Tinder and Bumble, and AI twins that meet other people's twins first, which is what you can do in our game OtherDay. None of them can promise a match. Choose by city, price and how much you want the AI to handle.

An OtherDay twin walks past an office and a bench with a phone, toward a café where another twin waves.

As of October 2026, AI dating apps come in three kinds: AI matchmakers that interview you and set up dates (Sitch, Amata, Known, Keeper, Ditto), AI built into apps you swipe on (iris, Hinge, Tinder, Bumble), and AI twins that meet other people's twins before you do (OtherDay, which we make). The best one for you depends on your city, your budget and how much you want the AI to do.

Here's the part most lists skip: most AI matchmakers only work in a handful of US cities, so your zip code will narrow this list faster than any feature.

Disclosure first: we make OtherDay, the AI twin game in the third group. It's on the list below, with its limits spelled out like everyone else's. We didn't sign up for each app. This is what each one says it does, from its App Store listing, its own site or the press, checked on October 22, 2026. Prices and cities in this category change fast, so check the app before you sign up.

We left out AI girlfriend and companion apps. In those, the AI is the partner. Everything here is about meeting real people.

AI matchmakers: the AI interviews you, then sets up a date

If you don't live in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Austin or the Bay Area, and you're not a student at a participating school, most of this section isn't open to you yet.

This is the biggest group. In a February 2026 overview of AI in dating, the venture firm GV put Known, Sitch, Keeper and Overtone together under AI matchmaking, along with iris Dating, which we cover in the next section. For a deeper side-by-side of the matchmakers alone, see AI Matchmaking Apps Compared.

Sitch

You answer questions about your preferences, non-negotiables and nice-to-haves, and an AI matchmaker sends curated intros with photos, background and a reason the match could work, per its App Store listing. People on Sitch's team review every profile, and a setup happens only when both people agree to meet. The listing names New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Austin.

Single setups are $24.99 or $34.99, with packs of three ($89.99), five ($124.99) or eight ($159.99), plus a $29.99 "Sitch Monthly" plan.

Keep in mind: your setups are only as good as the pool in your city and age range.

Amata

Amata cuts out the texting stage. Its App Store listing describes an AI matchmaker that gets to know you through conversation, introduces someone, skips the pre-date small talk and books a table, then debriefs with you afterward. A direct message channel "opens only two hours before the scheduled meeting," Global Dating Insights reported, and a date token cost $16 when Amata launched in New York in October 2025, after a test in Australia. The App Store also shows "Amata Plus" purchases from $34.99 to $119.99 without saying what each includes, and doesn't show a per-date price.

Keep in mind: you meet someone you've barely talked to, by design.

Known

Known starts with a voice call instead of a form. Its App Store listing says most members spend about 26 minutes on it. You get one intro at a time, both people have 24 hours to accept, and when interest is mutual it books a restaurant. The app is free to download, and a date credit is $15. Known launched in the San Francisco Bay Area in mid-February 2026 and planned to expand to Southern California later in 2026, per Global Dating Insights.

Keep in mind: one match at a time is slow on purpose.

Keeper

Keeper's site leads with "The one you'll marry." It says the AI searches candidates, a human matchmaker reviews each match, the woman sees the match first, and an intro happens only when both say yes. Members are screened for long-term intent. Keeper writes your profile for you and women use it for free, per Global Dating Insights. Men pay per date, plus a fee of up to $50,000 if they marry through the platform, which the report calls a "marriage bounty." As of that December 2025 report, it supported only heterosexual matches. The site doesn't list prices or cities.

Keep in mind: it's built for people dating for marriage, and the intake is long.

Ditto

Ditto has no app. You submit your preferences by Tuesday night, and every Wednesday at 7pm it texts you one match over iMessage with a note on why you'd click, then helps schedule a date at an on-campus spot, per its site. It's only for college students 18 and older, matched with verified students at their own school. Ditto raised $9.2 million in February 2026 and started at UC San Diego before expanding to UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Davis and USC, IT Brief reported. The site doesn't list a price.

Keep in mind: once you graduate, it isn't built for you.

AI inside a dating app: iris, Hinge, Tinder and Bumble

Here you still swipe and chat yourself. The AI ranks your picks or nudges what you write.

iris Dating app

The iris dating app works like a classic app with an AI layer on top. It learns from the profiles you like and pass on, including facial features, then recommends people it predicts you'll be mutually attracted to, per its App Store listing. It also uses AI to verify identities. Signing up is free, and the AI features for faster matches come with a premium subscription, listed at $9.99 a month for Gold and $24.99 a month for Platinum. In a November 2024 reply on the listing, the developer said free accounts show matches globally and choosing specific countries takes an upgrade.

Keep in mind: the faster-match features sit behind a subscription, and choosing specific countries takes an upgrade.

Hinge, Tinder and Bumble

The big apps aren't replacing swiping with an AI. They're adding AI help inside it.

  • Hinge Convo Starters. When you go to like a profile, Hinge offers three tips based on that person's photos or prompts, and you still write your own message, per Hinge. It launched in the US in December 2025 and reached the UK in February 2026. Hinge also has Prompt Feedback for your own profile.
  • Tinder's AI Chemistry. It uses questions and optional camera roll scans to curate daily matches. In March 2026, Global Dating Insights reported it was expanding from tests in Australia and New Zealand to the US and Canada.
  • Bumble Bee. Bee learns your values and goals in private chats, by text or voice, and suggests matches with a reason, TechCrunch reported in March 2026, when it was in a pilot. It isn't open to everyone yet. On Bumble's August 2026 earnings call, Whitney Wolfe Herd said the assistant was with select members for onboarding and matching, and that a new, swipe-free interaction model should start rolling out in very early 2027.

Keep in mind: you still do the swiping, the chatting and the first-date small talk yourself.

AI twins: an AI version of you goes first

Most apps here try to work out before you meet whether you'll click, from a questionnaire, a voice interview or the faces you like. Chemistry usually shows up only once two people actually talk. A twin lets a first conversation happen once, between your twins, before you spend an evening on it.

This is the newest kind, and the one we build. We explain the idea in What Is AI Twin Dating? and what a twin is in What Is an AI Twin?.

OtherDay

Again, this one is ours. You make an AI twin and teach it how you talk, by text or voice. It goes out, meets in-game characters and, depending on your settings, other players' twins, then comes back to tell you how it went. It all happens inside a free life-sim game set in a little in-game California town. Your twin can't message a real person. Two players can message each other only after their twins have met and both say yes.

It runs in your browser and on Android, with iPhone coming soon. It's free to play and for adults 18 and older. OtherDay Plus is an optional subscription in the iPhone and Android apps. Paying never makes another player say yes.

Keep in mind: it's a game first, and it's new, so early on your twin may meet more in-game characters than other players. If your twins don't click, that says nothing final about either of you, and nobody can promise you'll meet someone.

If you live in one of the matchmaker cities and want a table booked this month, a matchmaker is built for that. If you don't, or you want a sense of the conversation before you spend a Friday night on it, that's what a twin is for. Make your twin in your browser, free

Not launched yet, or no longer running

  • Overtone, from the founder of Hinge, says on its site that it's "coming soon," with a list you can join for updates. TechCrunch reported in July 2026 that it raised $18 million and will be available later in 2026, but only in certain locations.
  • Volar, an early app where AI avatars chatted on users' behalf, was called "a now-closed AI dating app" in an August 2026 item on Online Personals Watch.

How to choose an AI dating app

An AI matchmaker is only as good as the singles in your city.

  1. Where do you live? Most matchmakers work in a handful of cities. Check your city first. It rules out more options than anything else.
  2. What are you willing to pay for? Matchmakers mostly charge per date or setup. The big apps' AI tools come with the app. iris uses a subscription. OtherDay is free with an optional upgrade.
  3. How much should the AI do? In-app AI helps you sort and write. Matchmakers choose and book. A twin goes and has the first conversation.
  4. Do you want a date soon, or a first conversation before you commit an evening? Matchmakers are built to get you to a table. A twin is built to show you how a first conversation might go.

Whichever you pick, the AI can only work with the people who are actually there. No app on this list can promise you a match.

Questions

What is an AI dating app?

An AI dating app uses AI to do part of the work of dating for you. Today that means one of three things: an AI matchmaker that interviews you and picks people, AI inside a regular dating app that ranks your picks or helps you write, or an AI twin that has the first conversations with other people's twins.

What is the best AI dating app?

It depends on where you live and what you want the AI to do. In New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago or Austin, Sitch sets up curated dates. In the San Francisco Bay Area, Known matches you through a voice call. College students at participating schools can use Ditto. If you'd rather stay on Hinge, Tinder or Bumble, their built-in AI tools help inside the app. If you want an AI version of you to have the first conversation, that's what OtherDay, our game, does.

Are there free AI dating apps?

A few are free to start. iris is free to sign up, with its AI features for faster matches in a paid subscription. Known's app is free to download and charges per date. The AI tools in Hinge, Tinder and Bumble come with those apps, though Bumble's assistant is still limited to select members. OtherDay is free to play. Prices change often, so check the app's store listing.

Is the iris dating app an AI matchmaker?

Partly. iris learns which faces and profiles you're drawn to from what you like and pass on, then recommends people it predicts you'll be mutually attracted to. It doesn't interview you or book dates the way Sitch, Amata or Known do.

Is there an app where AI goes on dates for you?

Not in the sense of an AI meeting a real person for you. AI matchmakers choose someone and book the table, but you go on the date. In an AI twin game like OtherDay, your twin has the first conversation with other players' twins and tells you how it went. Two real people talk only after both say yes.

Will an AI dating app message real people for me?

Usually not. Hinge says its Convo Starters only suggest ideas and you write the message yourself. Matchmakers introduce you and then step back. In OtherDay, your twin talks with other players' twins but can't message a real person, and players message each other only after both say yes.

Are AI dating apps the same as AI girlfriend apps?

No. In an AI girlfriend or companion app, the AI is the partner. Every app in this guide is about meeting real people, and the AI either helps you, introduces you or goes first on your behalf.
