How we use AI
OtherDay is a game about an AI twin, so AI is a big part of it. Here's exactly where it's used, where it isn't, and what happens to your data.
What AI does
How twins and locals talk and decide what to do
- Everything your twin and the locals say in town, including first hellos, conversations when twins meet, and the diary your twin keeps afterward.
- Choosing who your twin goes up to. The game first narrows down who's around using fixed rules, then the AI picks.
- Whether your twin accepts a date invite from another twin in town.
- Your twin's answers when you ask it to find something out about someone (“Ask about”).
- Behind the scenes, your twin guesses how you'd choose, so we can check how well it knows you. It never quizzes you on screen.
How your twin gets to know you
- Turning your sign-up chat into your twin's starting personality.
- Learning from how you play, reflecting on its day, and updating what it knows about you.
- Your chats with your twin and its daily report.
- Tidying up what you bring over from ChatGPT, if you choose to.
- Everyday photos, if you choose to share them. They're resized and stripped of location and other metadata before they're stored privately for you. The AI reads them and keeps at most five short notes about your everyday life. Photos and notes are never shown to other players. Like everything else you teach your twin, the notes can shape its personality.
Voice
- Live voice calls with your twin.
- Turning your voice into text when you press and hold to talk.
Safety
- If you mention wanting to hurt yourself, we check your words against a fixed list, and the AI also looks for it in your chats with your twin. Either one shows you a card with crisis resources.
What AI doesn't do
- The world isn't AI art. Every building, character and animation is built in code. There are no AI-generated images in the game.
- AI can't connect you with a real person. Twins can get along, but two real people both have to say yes before anyone talks. The game enforces that, not the AI.
- The questions your twin can ask about someone come from a fixed list. The AI only answers them.
- Moment cards are written ahead of time.
- Locals' daily routines are set by the game, and locals don't chat with each other.
Your data
- Who processes it: OpenAI, a U.S. company, runs the AI for your twin's conversations and actions, voice calls, voice-to-text and memories. All of our text AI runs on OpenAI today. We've also set up a backup text provider, but it's switched off, and we'll update this page and our Privacy Policy before we turn it on.
- Training: We don't train or fine-tune any AI models on your data.
- At OpenAI: We turn off OpenAI's storage for our text requests. OpenAI may keep logs for abuse monitoring for up to 30 days, including for live voice.
- On our side: You can see, edit and forget what your twin remembers in People › Memories. How long we keep each kind of data, and how to export or delete it, is in our Privacy Policy.
- We don't use ad tracking.
Who makes it
OtherDay is made by its founder, who also runs GRASS, an outdoor dating app. The code is written with the help of AI coding agents. The direction, the playtesting and every final call are human.
